“As the number of court cases continues to rise, immigration judges are being forced to shift their focus from hearings on the merits to procedural confusion,” said former Immigration Court Judge O’Brien.

According to the Syracuse University Transaction Clearinghouse (TRAC), in the first four months of fiscal year 2023, the total number of cases closed was 172,180, an 85% increase over the same period in 2019.
